The Evil Dead franchise was created by Sam Raimi and "groovy" Bruce Campbell in 1978. It built on the Lovecraft mythos, though what Howie would have thought of it is anyone's guess. The franchise consists of 5 films (rebooted at #4) and a 3-season television series. Before Evil Dead Rise was released, the work had peaked in 1992 with Army of Darkness.
